Meet the owners of Mountainoak Cheese! Adam van Bergeijk and his wife Hannie made their debut in Holland where they took over the family dairy farm from Adam's parents in 1976. In 1981, they both attended the renowned cheesemaker's school in Gouda, a school whose cheesemaking reputation spans more than three hundred years. Now a teacher of cheesemaking himself, Adam has trained students from countries throughout Europe in the art of cheesemaking. After moving to Canada and settling in Hamburg, On, this enterprising family built a modern, state-of-the-art processing plant right on their farm to continue the tradition of making great-tasting, high-quality, Gouda-style cheeses with the farm-fresh milk from their very own dairy cows.
"At Mountainoak Cheese, we strive to stay true to our roots making high quality products using only the best ingredients. To achieve these high standards, we make sure we are part of the entire process. We plant our own seed, care for and harvest our own crops so we know what our animals eat. We treat our herd with respect and personal care. We help take care of our environment, leaving the smallest possible carbon footprint by producing our cheese right here on the farm with no extensive travelling or cooling. Just our own pure milk right into the final product. We seek to create an environment rich in potential for our employees. We are a family."
Adam, Hannie and their team work hard to bring their cheese-loving customers Goudas made with whole ingredients according to the traditional Dutch recipe. Each cheese is handled with care daily and aged naturally, bringing out the best characteristics of their milk. Farmstead Cheesehouse is proud to carry a wide variety of their award-winning flavours because they are sure to please!
