Did you say Gelato ?!
YES! Summer at Farmstead Cheesehouse is all about the authentic Italian Gelato made on-site by our very own gelatiera, Fiona Petermann. Fio traveled to Italy during the summer of 2018 to do specialized training in the art of making gelato from scratch. Freshly trained by these world-renowned experts in the old country, she is proud to bring this unique savoir-faire to Renfrew County! This is where science and craftsmanship meet! Fiona sources her milk from Brum's Dairy and incorporates local fruits and berries as they come into season. While she always ensures a selection of traditional favourites in the display case, she also enjoys the fun and challenge of developing new flavours - Canary melon anyone? And yes, we promise our kiwi lovers that she'll do that one again this season too! This past fall, Fiona created two very personal recipes namely Apple Pie & Pembroke Pear gelato using apples & pears from the Petermann orchard planted by Grandpa Georges in the 1980's.
Local , meaningful and delicious- the best combination!

Seasonal treats.
Fiona's creativity shines throughout the seasons. First the local strawberries from MacGregor's, then the blueberries from Hugli's Blueberry Ranch next door, followed by Niagara peaches in the late summer rolling into pumpkin pie and cheesecake by the fall. You are sure to find a seasonal favourite! We always have a great variety of flavours for you to mix and match including milk-based gelatos and sorbettos that are dairy free.
